The files are read and recombined in your browser with pdf-lib, so confidential paperwork is never handed to a web service.

How to use the Merge PDF

Upload two or more PDFs. You can add more at any point.
Drag the files into the order you want, or sort them by name.
Merge them into a single PDF.
Download the combined file.

Set the order of your files

Pages end up in the same top-to-bottom order as the list. Drag a row to move it, use the up and down arrows, or choose Sort by name. Sort by name compares numbers as numbers, so scan-2.pdf comes before scan-10.pdf. Before you merge, the tool shows how many files and pages you have added and their total size, and after merging it shows the page count and size of the result.

What the merged file keeps and what it drops

Pages are copied across, not re-rendered. Text stays selectable and images are not recompressed.
Bookmarks (the outline panel) are not carried into the merged file.
Fillable form fields should not be expected to stay fillable after a merge. Check the result if the files contain forms.
Your original files are not changed. The result downloads as merged.pdf.
A password-protected file cannot be added. The tool skips it and tells you which file it could not read.

Common PDF jobs that start with a merge

Combine photos or scans: make a PDF from the images with Image to PDF, then merge it with your other documents.
Merged file too big to email: run it through the PDF Compressor.
Need only some pages from each file: cut them out with Split PDF first, then merge the pieces.
Need the pages as pictures instead: PDF to JPG turns each page into an image.

Things worth knowing

Password-protected and encrypted PDFs cannot be merged.
Bookmarks are dropped and fillable form fields may stop working in the merged file.
Merging many large files is limited by the memory available to your browser tab.

Are my files uploaded to a server?

No. Every file is parsed and merged in your browser, so nothing leaves your device.

Can I control the page order?

Yes. Each file is a row you can drag to reposition, and there is a sort-by-name option. Pages are added in the final top-to-bottom order of the list.

Do the merged pages keep their original quality?

Yes. Pages are copied across unchanged: text stays selectable and the layout is untouched. Nothing is re-rendered or re-compressed.

Will it open a password-protected PDF?

Encrypted files generally cannot be read by the tool. Remove the password in your usual PDF reader, then merge the unprotected copy.

Is there a limit on how many PDFs or pages I can merge?

The tool sets no limit on the number of files or pages. The practical limit is the memory of your device and browser tab, so a very large batch is more likely to fail on a phone than on a computer.

Can I merge only some pages of a PDF?

Not directly. First pull out the pages you want with Split PDF, then add those smaller files here and merge them in the order you need.

How do I merge images or scans into one PDF?

Turn the images into a PDF first with Image to PDF, then merge that PDF with your other documents here.

Why is my merged PDF so large?

Merging copies pages across unchanged, so the result is roughly the sum of the files you added. If it is too big to send, shrink it afterwards with the PDF Compressor, which trades some quality for size.
